With
the survival of the Scotch whisky industry dependent on younger
drinkers, Glen Keith definitely
has credentials that appeal to today's young professional.
This
target market is more likely to be enamored with the appeal of
a distillery that, at its inception, was at the cutting edge of
technology, than alternatives that have for decades discouraged
new drinkers by clouding the industry in a deluge of elitist whisky-babble.
What
could be more appealing to the computer generation than a distillery,
developed in their lifetime, that pioneered the use of a micro-processor
to control the entire operation. Aside from its revolutionary
use of computers, Glen Keith
was also the first distillery in Scotland to use a natural
gas-fired still.
Situated
in the town of Keith, Glen
Keith was born of a corn mill, of uncertain age, that was
converted into a distillery by Chivas Brothers Limited in 1960.
With an unquestionable pedigree, it borders Strathlisla,
a distillery responsible for the production of the extremely popular
Chivas Regal blend, and
owned by the same company.
In
a market dominated by global brands with household names, Glen
Keith stands out, not only because of its appealing square
bottle, but because of an exclusivity born out of rarity. This
might change because Glen
Keith is a quality product with a burgeoning, almost cult-like
following among educated younger drinkers with with disposable
income, particularly in the United States.
With
this rapidly expanding base amongst free-thinking, first-time
Scotch drinkers, the future looks gold - or rather pale amber
with lemon highlights.
