Other Remarks:
Words from Michael Jackson:
Where the RIVER LOSSIE approaches the malt whisky town of Elgin. there
are no fewer than eight distilleries within a fear miles.
Glen Elgin is not the nearest to the town whose name it bears, but
close enough.
There are some excellent whiskies in this stretch of country,: and
the sweetish Glen Elgin is one of them. The distillery was founded in 1898-1900,
and rebuilt and extended in 1964. The malt is an important component of
the White Horse blended whisky. Glen Elgin has been available as a 13-year-old
single
malt in an official bottling for some years. In 1991, a new official
bottling was introduced, still at 13 years old, but with
no age statement on the label. The new bottling seems fractionally
paler and slightly less smoky in the nose, with some dryish sherry notes.
House style Honey and tangerines. Restorative or after dinner.
