SCOTCH STAND WINS LABOUR CONFERENCE PRIZE
The Scotch Whisky industry stand won second place out of 150 standholders in the best stand competition at the Labour Party Conference in Blackpool.

‘The Scotch Whisky Tax Roller Coaster’ stand charted the rise and rise of excise duty. It urged the Government to stop the tax roller coaster.

More than 60 MPs visited the stand, attracted by the moving roller coaster which featured caricatures of the Prime Minister, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, plus the Shadow Leader and Shadow Chancellor, as well as other leading political figures.

Visitors were briefed on the industry’s campaign for equal tax treatment for all alcoholic drinks levied at the same rate according to alcohol content.

The Prime Minister was among the visitors. He remarked that the industry ‘had a good case’.

The competition was judged by Mrs Blair. In accepting the prize, The Scotch Whisky Association’s Public Affairs Director, Tony Tucker, said: "For our next prize, we’d like a tax cut please".
