Market
Boost for Scotch The Scotch Whisky Association welcomes the deal between the EU
and China, which should lead to a boost for exports in this previously untapped market.
The industry is delighted that tariffs will fall to 10% from the current level of 65%. At
present, exports of Scotch Whisky to China are miniscule for a country of its size. Sales
of Scotch in China were worth just £1.2m in 1999. We would expect a significant increase
following such a dramatic drop in tariffs.
